Parts needed
Raspberry Pi + network – Most Raspberry Pis will do the job
USB sound card
Digital interface with PTT OR digital Pi hat (see link below)
Connecting cables
2M radio OR SDR
APRS password – GET IT HERE
If you want a mobile setup, you will need a GPS module.

Since the software changes, I can’t provide exact details on how to do this, but I will outline the general steps below. A full guide can be found here: https://themodernham.com/ultimate-direwolf-tnc-installation-guide-for-windows-and-linux/

First, you need a fresh install of Raspberry Pi.
Connect cables to the Pi and radio. You will need an external USB sound card.
Install direwolf and xastir + remote desktop software
Set ip address to be static
Configure callsign and station details.
Configure audio output and input levels.
Check Direwolf on incoming packets, try sending a packet, use aprs.fi to verify it was received.
Enable Direwolf beaconing
Configure Xastir to talk to Direwolf
Configure direwolf to run at startup
Configure Xastir to start after direwolf
Configure remote desktop to use Xastir
Optional: Turn on RX/TX Igate, DON’T TURN ON DIGIPETE UNLESS YOUR AREA NEEDS IT

Direwolf handles the packets; Xastir gives it a graphical interface.

I found this hat that has GPS and an environmental sensor.
