You are just like me. Just got bit by the DX bug, and you want to know where the DX is and when they are on the air.

BEFORE THE DXPEDITION

With most good things in life, you need to plan on working the DXpedition. You should familiarize yourself with the DXpeditions that are planned. DXpeditions are rarely a surprise. Most operators who go to these rare entities want to get everyone in their log. So they will announce when they will be on the air.

A fantastic DX resource is the Willamette Valley DX Club. In there, they have some of the greatest DXers and contesters. Many of them have been on their own DXpeditions!

Another great resource is the DXWorld website. This is also my favorite site for DX updates. Many teams announce their plans and updates here. This is their website: https://www.dx-world.net/ They also have a Facebook page that posts updates as well. https://www.facebook.com/DXWorld.net

DURING THE DXPEDITION

Do all DXpeditions use the same frequency?
Short answer, no. It would be unwise to have multiple DXpeditions on the air. Too much interference. They typically find a clear frequency and stay on it if possible.

The next place you should look is local DX Clusters. This aggregates reports from hams all over the world. You can filter by region. This will tell what frequency is being used.

If the DX station is using FT8, you should be familiar with PSKreporter. Here is the website: https://pskreporter.info/pskmap.html
Set the boxes to these for maximum effectiveness:

All Bands, Signals, Sent By, The Callsign, THE DX CALLSIGN, 15 minutes.

Hit go, then hover over the received signals. It will display the frequency. You will need to check a few; not all reports will have the correct frequency. If the station was heard in the last 15 minutes, they should appear.

Now that you know where to find the DXpeditions, you should be familiar with how DX stations work. Try these pages.
