Amateur Radio License Examinations

Exam sessions are held on the first Saturday of each month except June at 1:00 PM at the Sunset Presbyterian Church 14986 NW Cornell Rd, Portland, OR 97229. The June Exam session will be held at the SEA-PAC Ham Convention in Seaside; see for the test schedule.

All exam elements are administered at each session. You may verify any exam schedule at as any changes will be posted there.

The test fee is $15.00. Bring check or money order payable to ARRL VEC and a photo ID. Applicants upgrading must bring the original AND a photocopy of their current license.

Renewing your license using the Universal Licensing System (ULS)

     The easiest way is to do it online. Go to . If you have not already registered with ULS, select "Register CORES/Call Sign" and follow the instructions. Once you are registered, select "Online Filing" and follow the instructions. If you don't have a computer, I'm sure you have a friend who does and can help. Try it!
     To modify a license by mail do not, I repeat, DO NOT attempt to use the FCC Form 605. Obtain a copy of NCVEC Quick-Form 605 from: (Your friend who has a computer can help you with this part.)
Fill in section 1 and sign it. Leave section 2 blank.
     If you are an ARRL member, you can make changes free by mailing the form along with a photocopy of your license to:

     If you are not an ARRL member, the Sunnyvale VEC will submit license updates for a fee. Send the form with a photocopy of your license and a check for $6.00, payable to Sunnyvale VEC, to:
